Data Warehouse Developer - Lead (Job Number 12020)

With an expanding research portfolio, the Medica Research Institute is looking for a Data Warehouse Development Lead who will be responsible for leading development and maintenance initiatives using a variety of technologies supporting research project initiatives.

This position is responsible for leading and mentoring developers in technical analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment of technology solutions as needed by the Institute. Major responsibilities include leading the design, extraction and preparation of data sets to support specific research projects using reusable data warehouse and data integration design patterns; monitoring, assessment and improvement of research informatics tools and systems; serving as the subject matter expert for these tools and systems; and participation in the data governance activities of the Institute and of the enterprise that typically involve following activities:

• Lead data source analysis and contribute to the design of optimal data structures to support defined and anticipated research data needs.
• Develop standards, process flows and tools that promote and facilitate the mapping of data sources, documenting interfaces and data transformation/integration to support research projects/activities within the institute as well as with research partners.
• Understand the data and technical environment, development practices and standards adopted within the team and propose on-going improvements and recommend acquisition of appropriate tools and technologies.
• Create low level design and review with other project team members.
• Define, manage and track reusable application components or reusable application code.
• Involve in code reviews, unit testing, peer reviews and partner with QA to document test criteria.
• Practice policies set for governance, compliance, security, infrastructure and change management.
• Participate in defining data governance and best practices around meta-data to ensure an integrated definition of data for enterprise information, and to ensure the accuracy, validity, reusability, and consistent definitions for common reference data.
• Lead a team of developers and mentor junior team members.
• Balance short-term versus long-term actions, strategic versus tactical requirements, while continuing to move forward towards the strategic vision; participate in the road map to achieve the vision.
• Participate in the drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Research Informatics.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field MS a plus. 10 + years experience in software development with a majority of this experience building data integration or data warehousing solutions for data analytics applications.

Specific types of experience required:

• 2 + years proficiency in SQL and Oracle PL/SQL is required.
• 5 + years informatica or other ETL (DataStage, Ab Initio, open source) experience is required.
• 8 + years business Intelligence / Data Warehousing methodology is required.
• 2 + years experience in healthcare environment (especially health plan data, health data privacy rules) preferred.
• Experience in using GIS software for geo-processing to integrate data from multiple sources is preferred.
• Exposure to a clinical information system and clinical data standards is desirable.
• Knowledge in SAS or similar statistical software for data analysis and data management is a plus.

Qualifications

• Candidates must possess a terminal degree (PhD or MD), requiring a research based thesis in a health care related field
• A minimum of 5 -7 years experience as a scientific investigator on research grants or contracts.
• Minimum of one completed experience functioning as a principal investigator for a research, demonstration or evaluation project resulting in manuscript submission to a peer-reviewed journal.
• Demonstrated ability to author proposals with successful funding required.
